Perfect World (Simplified Chinese:完美时空, NASDAQ: PWRD) is a China-based online game company specializing in MMORPGs. Beijing Perfect World Co. was founded in 2004 by Chi Yufeng, the president of Human Software Corporation.[2] The company aims to develop and market games with Chinese characteristics. The company's initial public offering on the Nasdaq was completed in July, 2007.[3]
Perfect World is parent to Seattle-based game developer Runic Games. In 2009, Perfect World Co. Ltd. entered into an exclusive agreement to publish Torchlight, an action-RPG in production by Runic Games worldwide and later bought a majority stake in Runic Games.[4]
On May 31, 2011 it was announced that Perfect World had acquired Cryptic Studios from Atari for over $50 million in purchase.[5]

Created in April 2008, Perfect World Entertainment was created to distribute games from Perfect World Co. in North America. Perfect World Entertainment currently has several games from Perfect World Co. These include Perfect World (which was renamed Perfect World International), Pocketpet Journey West (renamed Ether Saga Online), Zhu Xian (renamed Jade Dynasty), Battle of the Immortals, and Forsaken World.[6] Perfect World Entertainment also has many other games on schedule to be released in North America. In January 2011, Perfect World Entertainment has announced that it will be publishing it's first external game (not developed by Perfect World Co.). Perfect World Entertainment will be publishing Rusty Hearts by WindySoft for the North American Region. The game is said to be debuting at the E3 convention later this year.[7] On March 8 of 2011, PWE has also announced that they will be licensing another game, Raiderz by MAIET Entertainment, for North America. This game will also be debuting at the E3.[8]
Perfect World Entertainment has many upcoming games which include, Swordsman Online, Rusty Hearts, Raiderz and, Blacklight: Retribution.
In late September 2011, it was announced that PWE would be closing the following games.[9]
Created in early 2010, in Amsterdam, Perfect World Europe B.V. focuses on localizing Perfect World Co. Games for Europe. Currently, it has Zhu Xian as well as Forsaken World in both French and German.[10]
Acquired by Perfect World Co. in April 2010, C&C Media Co., Ltd currently has five games from Perfect World Co. and two licensed games.[11]
